Someone begins by choosing a book from the shelf. They will be the umpire for this round. The game begins with the umpire reading out the book's first line to give everyone a sense of the prose style. Now everyone writes down their best impression of the book's last line. Everyone pops their suggestions into a hat. At the same time the umpire writes down the actual last line and throws that into the hat too. When all the entries are complete the umpire reads them out. ![]() ![]() Ready for some fun Christmas games your family will love? Browse this list of Christmas game ideas. The hottest party ideas from LifeScript.com. Everyone votes for what they think is the real closing line. You get one point if you vote for the actual last line and one point for everyone who votes for your version. Keep going until everyone has had a go at being the umpire. Whoever has most points at the end wins. The Station Game Someone starts by volunteering a train journey. They must give the starting point and the destination. They must also establish a particular 'secret' in how they explain their journey. For example: 'I travelled from Edinburgh to, um, London.' The secret is the 'um' between destinations. Going around the table, the next person must say a journey in response. They might say: 'I travelled from London to Manchester,' to which the first player would reply: 'No, you didn't.' Because the second player hasn't yet twigged that you have to put an 'um' between stations. People continue offering their journeys, all being told: 'No, you didn't', until someone might, by accident, say 'um' between their stations. The reply would then be: 'Yes, you did.' Gradually people will figure out why certain journeys are allowed and others not. ![]() When the go falls again to the first player, he gives another example of a successful journey, again repeating the clue, saying, for example: 'I went from Bristol to, um, Cardiff.' When everyone has solved it, move on. The first person to crack the code should establish the new one. Sitting around the table a 'doucher' is chosen. This person proposes a category with a limited number of examples and which is not too esoteric (say, the films of Tom Cruise). ![]() The doucher 'locks' an example of this category into his mind. The doucher takes an eggcup filled with water. They hold it over the head of each player asking them to give an example of the category. They might say Top Gun, Days of Thunder, Rain Man. As soon as someone says the example in the doucher's mind, they are 'douched' with the contents of the egg cup. The soggy victim now takes over the role of doucher, proposes a new category and the game begins again. Lie Detector This is great when you are sitting around the table, too full to move. Each player shares three things about themselves. Two of these must be true and one false. Everyone in the group gets the chance to interrogate the speaker. The group grills the speaker to discover how well they can back up their claims. When everyone has had the chance to ask their questions, the group decides together which statement they believe to be the false one. ![]() This is the most fun part as everyone struggles to reach a consensus. When a majority decision has been reached, you announce your verdict and discover whether you've successfully deciphered fact from fiction. Watch out for hesitation, faintly concealed smiles and discreet blushing. Psychiatrist This is a modern twist on a game which in the 19th century would have been known as a 'catch' game since you are looking to catch someone out. You begin by selecting a 'psychiatrist' from the group. It's his job to diagnose the condition everyone is suffering. He leaves the room while the group agrees the condition they might all have. The classic ruse is that everyone answers as if they are the person sitting to their left. The Psychiatrist returns to the room and starts to ask questions of his or her patients. How are they? Do they have any particular fears, dreams et cetera? People have to answer as accurately as possible according to their knowledge of the person to their left (which itself proves very revealing). When the psychiatrist is totally baffled you can help him by suggesting he ask each patient his or her name. Telegrams Somebody chooses a word and everyone must write a telegram as an acronym of this word. So, if the first word is 'Christmas', then the first word must begin with C, the second with H and so on. To match the telegram style your sentence must contain information in the form of an urgent message. The telegram's content must also relate to the original word. A notable example I collected is 'Please Help I've Lost Overall Sense of People's Happy Yearnings' (PHILOSOPHY). Award three points for the top telegram in each round, two to the second and one to the third. You will need to establish quality by consensus. At the end of four or five rounds declare a winner. Christmas Card Couples This is a great icebreaker – especially when some of your guests aren’t acquainted with each other. Here’s how it works: • Gather up old Christmas cards and cut each illustrated cover in half until you have as many card halves as guests. • Mix the halves up in a basket and keep the basket by the front door or near the drinks. • Have each guest select a card-half from the basket. • Armed with their card, they’ll ask each person they meet to see their card-half until they finally locate their “other half.” • Once everyone has arrived, announce that the holders of the first three cards to get matched up will win a small prize. North Pole Two-by-Two A perfect ice-breaker for all ages, Two-by-Two is a loud game that will get everyone laughing. The rules are simple enough for even the youngest guest to understand: • Everyone stands in two parallel lines facing each other. • Give each person in one line a piece of paper with a “North Pole” animal on it. • Give matching pieces of paper to each person in the opposite line. • After giving everyone a few minutes to think, say “go!” Everyone acts like their assigned animal – flapping their wings, stomping their hooves, waddling like a penguin – and tries to find their “mate” on the opposite side of the room. The main rule to this game is no talking! Make a Reindeer Rack Divide your guests into equal teams and give each a bag with these items: • One unused pair of pantyhose with a five-inch hole cut in the tummy panel and both feet cut off • Red ribbon • Red bow • 14 small, long-shaped balloons Then proceed with the game as follows: • Put five minutes on the clock. • Ask one member of each team to be the “reindeer.” That person puts the pantyhose on her head with her face showing through the hole. • The team blows the balloons up and slips them through the open end of the pantyhose until they resemble antlers. • Close the hole with the ribbon and decorate the “antlers.” • Stick the red bow to the person’s nose for a Rudolph effect. • The team that makes the best antlers wins. Right and Left Gift Game This game requires some preparation, but it’s a crowd-pleaser for parties at which guests bring a “white elephant” gift. Write a story that’s a few minutes long and contains the words “left” and “right” many times. For example: Mr. Right said his left hand was hurting. “Your right hand?” said Mrs. “No, my left hand,” said Mr. As the story is read: • Participants stand in a circle, each holding a small wrapped gift – either small gifts that each person has brought or wrapped party favors. • As the host reads the story, each time the words “right” and “left” are read, the players pass the gift they are holding in that direction. • When the story is done, the player gets to keep the gift he or she is holding. Fast Unwrap Game For this game you’ll need: • One prize wrapped in many layers of gift wrap or newspaper • A Santa or elf hat • A pair of big, bulky gloves or oven mitts • One die; or two dice if there are a lot of people Here’s how it works: • Set the prize in the center of the room and ask participants to gather around it. • If the first person rolls anything but a six, she passes the die to the person on her left. If she rolls a six, she puts on the hat and gloves and begins opening the prize one layer at a time. • The next person who rolls a six takes the hat and gloves and continues unwrapping. • The person who unwraps the last layer keeps the prize. Games for Children Christmas games for children are best if they’re short and non-competitive. If you’re playing a “Secret Santa” game allowing the children to swap the gifts often leads to trouble, so it’s a good idea to have each child keep the gift he or she has picked. Christmas games that are adaptations of games that children are familiar with can be particularly successful. Secret Santa • Ask each guest to bring a small, wrapped gift and place it on a table at the party. • Each child pulls a number out of a hat until everyone has a number. • The child with No. 1 is allowed to choose any of the gifts on the table. 2 selects a gift. • This goes on until all the guests have received a gift. Games for Adults Adult Christmas party games can be longer and more complicated than those for kids. It’s a good idea to give the adults time to socialize and warm up before the games begin to ensure that everyone participates. Gift Swap This version of the Secret Santa game has a twist at the end. After the first person has chosen a gift and unwrapped it, the next guest chooses and unwraps a gift. The second person then keeps her gift or chooses to swap gifts with the first gift-holder. Each guest chooses a gift and decides which person to swap with until all guests have a gift have had a chance to swap. At the end of the game, number one can choose to swap with any of the other guests. Christmas Movie Trivia Write up a series of questions about popular Christmas movies and invite your guests to try to answer them. A sample question might be: The title role in “Elf” is played by: a. Owen Wilson b. Will Ferrell c. Robin Williams The guest with the most correct answers wins. If your party is large, this game works well for teams. Are You Ready For Christmas? You might have your Christmas cards written and sent and maybe you even have those all-important gifts wrapped, but are you really ready to celebrate Christmas? 'Racing' is less a genre than it is a feeling. The ultra-realism of a game like iRacing and the cartoonish chaos of Burnout: Paradise have nothing in common except this: when you're racing to the final corner, wheel-to-wheel with your last rival, you are utterly lost in that moment. That moment is why we play racing games. It's the high that racing fans are always chasing. The most realistic PC racing games. Which of these realistic car games has that? Our criteria: This list tries to strike a balance between high-fidelity racing sims, 'sim-lite' racing games that balance realism with approachability, and action-oriented arcade racers. It's biased towards games that offer a lot of variety of experience in one package, as well as toward more recent games that will work with a minimum of fuss. Prev Page 1 of 18 Next Prev Page 1 of 18 Next Forza Motorsport 7. Developer: Turn 10 Studios Released: October 2017 In our, James calls it 'so vast and all-encompassing that not only can I turn it into a stupid game about vans, I can also make it a game about conquering my van obsession and finally learning how to drive cool sports cars.' It's one of the most all-encompassing vehicle-lovers sandboxes, capable of providing for those who just want to go fast in shiny metal cages, simulation die-hards, and everyone in-between. The addition of dynamic weather effects transforms the typical race from a technical route memorization test to an impromptu puddle-dodging marathon in low visibility. Night tracks slowly transition to dawn, sunlight filling out pitch black darkness while Forza looks and plays better than ever. It's weighed down by an awful progression system too dependent on a hackneyed loot box system, but as the first mainline Forza on PC, Motorsport 7 is malleable enough to absorb the shock of a few speed bumps. Prev Page 2 of 18 Next Prev Page 2 of 18 Next Forza Horizon 3. Developer: Playground Games, Turn 10 Released: September 2016 In our review of Forza Horizon 3, Phil thinks calling it a racing game is reductive. ![]() 'It's a huge, varied playground full of things to do in cars.' And he's right. You're rewarded equally for completing a race through the tight corners of urban Australia and driving a max speed through a farmer's property. It has enough switches to turn on or off that can make it play like chewy arcade racer or like a realistic sim. You can outfit any of over 300 photorealistic cars with any dumb livery you like, or you can fine tune the suspension. The DJs will play special songs that give you bonus points for driving like a smooth operator or a damn maniac. The list goes on and on, but best of all, you can do everything with friends in a fairly seamless cooperative mode. Our recommendation is caveated with a warning that Forza is not an easy game to run, and some performance issues are still getting ironed out, but none of them are enough to pull us out of its gorgeous, playful open world. Prev Page 3 of 18 Next Prev Page 3 of 18 Next F1 2016. Developer: Codemasters Released: August 2016 In our, Sam White called it 'the most well-featured, authentic recreation of Formula One ever created, and it’s a genuinely good PC port.' There's a massive checklist of new features that make F1 2016 the most immersive it's ever been. With manual starts, every race begins as a tense technical exercise. And a new R&D system doles out points that let you develop a specific car over the course of a season. But most importantly, small refinements to the racing round out the sim, including 'the slide of the car as you over-accelerate out of a turn; the gentle squeeze of the brakes so you don’t slide into a smoke-billowing, tire-ruining lock-up; the aquaplaning as you stray away from the safety of the racing line in a monsoon downpour—every lap is a joyous exercise in taming a ludicrously overpowered beast. ' Prev Page 4 of 18 Next Prev Page 4 of 18 Next TrackMania 2. Developer: Sector3 Studios Released: February 2013 This is the descendant of SimBin's once-mighty racing empire. Think of it as GTR Online: it's the ruthlessly-authentic car sim you remember, but retooled for online free-to-play. That's also its weakness. Once you get the cars on the track, it's all terrific and familiar. But off-track, RaceRoom is all about selling you bits and pieces of the game. Pick a series you want to race and buying the whole pack: that gets you all the cars and tracks you need to enjoy it. Prev Page 8 of 18 Next Prev Page 8 of 18 Next GRID Autosport. Developer: Codemasters Southam Released: May 2011 Rally racing is a contest between driver and a narrow, twisting ribbon of country road that is doing its best to kill the driver. Dirt 3 brings it to life in all its stomach-churning glory. It feels faster than any other game on this list, because skidding sideways and 50 MPH through a dirt-and-gravel hairpin, just inches away from a wall of a Finnish birch, proves to be more intense than taking an F1 car through Eau Rouge at Spa. Prev Page 11 of 18 Next Prev Page 11 of 18 Next iRacing. Developer: iRacing Motorsport Simulations Released: August 2008 With its regular online racing leagues and meticulous car and track modeling, iRacing is as close to real racing as you can get on the PC. That also means iRacing is something you need to work up to. It has no meaningful single-player component and, with its subscription fees and live tournament scheduling, it requires significant investment. ![]() ![]() But for a certain class of sim racing fan, there is nothing that compares. Prev Page 12 of 18 Next Prev Page 12 of 18 Next Driver: San Francisco. Developer: Ubisoft Reflections Released: September 2011 With a retro-chic ‘70s vibe, one of the best soundtracks in games, and a truly original twist on the open world racer, Driver: San Francisco just radiates style and cool in a way that no other game on this list can match. With the ability to 'shift' between NPC cars at-will, Driver:SF is one of the only post-Paradise open-world racers to think of something fresh and new to do with the freedom of the open world. Prev Page 13 of 18 Next Prev Page 13 of 18 Next Split / Second. Developer: Black Rock Studio Released: May 2010 Welcome to the Michael Bay Motorsports Hour, where fake sports cars will rocket through desolate, orange-filtered urban wastelands at blinding speed while drivers accumulate enough energy to trigger bomb-drops from overhead helicopters, vicious sweeps from out-of-control cranes, and even the odd explosion of an entire city block. It's the perfect chaser to a lot of open-world arcade racers: Split / Second is laser-focused on absurd automotive chaos and increasingly improbable tableaus of bloodless mechanical carnage. Prev Page 14 of 18 Next Prev Page 14 of 18 Next SHIFT 2. Developer: Slightly Mad Studios Released: March 2011 For a game that is ostensibly all about striking a compromise between realistic sim racing and edge-of-your-seat arcade action, Shift 2 feels totally uncompromised. It channels the violence and barely restrained power of high-end sports cars with the brilliant touch of an ace driver like a Senna or a Niki Lauda. The cars twitch and buck under acceleration, the tires shriek around the corners, your vision is twisted and distorted by the speed and the G-forces but somehow you're in control. That's the illusion that Shift 2 crafts. It always feels like you have a tiger by the tail but somehow you keep the car on the road, and keep clawing your way through the field. The thrill and the terror never quite go away, though, thanks to Slightly Mad's outstanding use of camera effects, sound, and a deceptively twitchy handling model. Shift 2 strikes a perfect balance. It's the game I go to when I want a ridiculously intense and demanding racing experience but I don't want to work as hard as a game like iRacing or RaceRoom tries to make me. Prev Page 15 of 18 Next Prev Page 15 of 18 Next Burnout Paradise. Developer: Criterion Games Released: January 2008 Burnout Paradise is seven years old. Seven years old! Seven years of being the most imitated racing game in history. And yet the original model still surpasses its imitators. It's so much purer and more exciting than the games it inspired. It doesn't have any licensed cars, so instead it features car-archetypes that crumple into gut-wrenchingly violent wrecks. Compare those to the fender-benders that wipe you out in Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Criterion's attempt at topping themselves and where you get the sense that just depicting a shattered headlight would have entailed hundreds of meetings with Lamborghini's lawyers. Paradise isn't an online 'social' experience. It's not all about collectibles and unlocks. You get new cars, but they're not the point of the game. It's about driving around a city populated entirely by cars, listening to a drivetime DJ spin classic and pop rock tracks while you drive hell-for-leather through twisting city streets, mountain passes, and idyllic farmland. It's violent, blindingly fast, and endlessly entertaining. It's created the modern arcade racing genre, but the joke is on us, because all we've done ever since is try to get back to Paradise. Prev Page 16 of 18 Next Prev Page 16 of 18 Next Assetto Corsa. Developer: Kunos Simulazioni Released: December 2014 Assetto Corsa might be the finest driving simulator in the world right now. Its handling model is incredibly convincing and challenging, without ever feeling exaggerated for effect. It's also got a satisfying career mode that throws a nice array of challenges at you across a wide variety of disciplines. Each new stage helps you develop the skills needed to drive Assetto Corsa's most demanding cars at the highest levels of racing. It's also a slightly bare-bones game off-track. Its UI looks more like engineering software than a game, and there isn't much flavor. The track list is a little small for my liking, though the extensive car-list makes up for it. Still, the minimalism suits Assetto Corsa's mission: it's about driving as cleanly and skillfully as possible on the very outside edge of performance. At a certain point in your racing life, that's all you want to do. Prev Page 17 of 18 Next Prev Page 17 of 18 Next Project CARS. Developer: Slightly Mad Studios Released: May 2015 Project CARS is an easy pick by being the 'desert island' racing game. If I could only take one of these games with me to a permanent gaming exile, Project CARS would be the one I choose. It's gorgeous, with some the most vivid weather and lighting conditions I've ever seen in a racing game. It's got all the variety you could want, from classic F1 racers to old 1970s touring cars to modern Le Mans Prototypes. Each car is unique and challenging, placing new demands on your skills and rewarding you in new ways. It's got great tracks, with special love and attention lavished on some of the lesser-known UK racing circuits, and might feature the most exciting version of Laguna Seca's Corkscrew turn in the history of the genre. Project CARS requires a lot of forgiveness and DIY tweaking. AI drivers are too 'on-rails', but patches have made them far less accident-prone. It takes a lot of fiddling to find the exact difficulty and realism settings that are right for you, and the career mode isn't much to write home about. It's not the greatest racing game ever made, but right now it is the most essential racing game around. Its fiddly customizability ultimately works in its favor as it becomes a game that will grow alongside your skills. Bit by bit, I find myself turning off driver aids, getting more ambitious with my car setups, and bumping-up the AI difficulty. Project CARS has served up a lot of great races but, most importantly, it is always an amazing drive. Prev Page 18 of 18 Next Prev Page 18 of 18 Next • • • • • •. Lately, I've been enjoying deck-building games. NOT the kind like Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh, where you build the deck ahead of time, but games in which building the deck IS the game. For example: Ascension, Thunderstone, Nightfall. I'm rather addicted to them, so it kind of sucks that I can only get friends together once or twice a week to play. Are there Windows applications for any deck building games like these? (Note: It doesn't have to be specifically those three games up there, just any sort of deck building game of that sort.) I don't have an iPad, or else this would be easy, lol. ![]() I know there's a Thunderstone on Facebook, but my Internet access sucks, so I wouldn't be able to play it reliably. There is an old Ascension program that someone made a few years back, and I have that, which is passable. Anything else, I would love to hear about! Jenks, okay thanks! I'll take a gander it when I've more time. Cliff, no problem, thanks for helping. David - awesome! I just dl'ed it and will try it out. Marc - the trouble is not that my Net cuts in and out so much as it is that's it off/not working for long stretches at a time. Since my landlord provides wifi free, I can't complain when it doesn't work. Moshe - That's a good point! I hadn't realized that Thunderstone could be played solo, but now that I think about it, duh. My budget is really tiny, though, so for now I'll have to go for Windows applications. I will definitely keep those in mind for the future! 0,4 Gb Info Ascension: Deckbuilding Game Free Download PC Game Cracked in Direct Link and Torrent. Ascension: Deckbuilding Game is a card game. It's been crazy hectic awesome. Therefore, my brain has stocked up on party ideas. Of course I'm going to share them with you! We are obsessed with group games that produce hilariousness. Through the years, I've found that these games are the most enjoyable for all kinds of people and really bring those shy ones out of their shells. I'll try to explain them to the best of my ability.:) Christmas Charades This is as simple as it sounds. In preparation for this game, I made a list of Christmas related things/actions/whatever for people to act out. It can be anything you want, but here are some good ones to get you started. • Three Wise Men • Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer • The Grinch • Santa Coming Down the Chimney • Santa's Fat Belly • Elf • Tree Topper • Trimming the Tree • Wrapping Presents • Opening Presents • Stockings • Caroling • Making Christmas Cookies • Snow Angel • Building a Snowman • Mary and Joseph • Christmas Morning • Christmas Eve • Sleigh • Mrs. Claus • Hanging Ornaments • Christmas Lights • Frosty the Snowman • Jingle Bells • Partridge in a Pear Tree • Little Drummer Boy • Angels • Christmas Shopping. Christmas Song Humdingers Or, if you don't want to stick with charades (some of those would be HARD to act out!), you could make the Christmas songs into 'Humdingers'. This was my favorite game we've played this holiday season. If you've ever played the game Cranium, you know what a Humdinger is. One person picks a song out of the bowl and has to hum or whistle it to the rest of their team. They cannot use motions or words, only humming or whistling. This sounds easier than it is! (In my case, I always start laughing and can't continue humming.) This could be played the same way as the charade games, and you could use the song list above. Let me tell you, this game gets pretty hilarious. Especially when people start furiously humming as fast at they can. Christmas Catchphrase If you don't want to act OR hum, this could be the game for you. You could use the same list for the first charades game, but play Catchphrase with it. You could play it like the charades games, or you could all sit in a circle and have every other person be on the same team (boys vs. Girls is always entertaining). Then you can just pass the bowl around. Whoever has the bowl draws one out and has to describe what's on the piece of paper without saying the words on it and without using motions. Once it's guessed, the person passes the bowl clockwise. If you play that way you can set a time limit of a minute and a half or however long you want to play before the person holding the bowl has to stop. A kitchen timer would work nicely. Whichever team is NOT holding the bowl when the timer goes off get's 1 point. Dirty Santa This is a classic game that most people know but may call it by a different name. This definitely takes some prior planning and you have to let everyone know about it when you invite them to the party. We play this every year at Jordan's annual Christmas party and at his grandma's house on Christmas Eve. Tell everyone to bring a wrapped gift and give them a price range such as $5-$10 or $10-$15. Sometimes when we play this it's called 'White Elephant Dirty Santa' which means people can bring awful gifts or funny gifts. (I unwrapped batteries when playing at church. Yay.) To play the game, you count how many people are participating and make that many numbers to put in a bowl. So if you have 18 people, you make pieces of paper with numbers 1 through 18 on them. You pass the bowl around and everyone draws a number. Number 1 picks out a gift, unwraps it, shows it to everyone. Number 2 can either steal Number 1's gift or pick a new one. If Number 2 steals 1's gift, 1 picks a new one and shows it. The round is over. It's Number 3's turn. Number 3 can either steal 1 or 2's gift, or pick a new one. If Number 3 steals 2's gift, 2 can either pick a new one or steal 1's gift. 2 can't steal his gift back, it has to be a different gift. If 2 steals 1's gift, 1 can't steal anything because everything has already been stolen that round. Nothing can be stolen twice in one round. That might be confusing, but just remember when the next number is going (4) it starts a new round. A gift can only be stolen 3 times, then it's 'dead'. No one else can take it, ever. The game is over when the last person takes a gift and their round is finished. So far this year in Dirty Santa I've won a $15 Subway gift card, batteries, and a $5 Target gift card. We'll see what I end up with on Saturday! Do you have any other ideas for Christmas party games? Please leave them in a comment, or leave a link to your blog post about games. I'd love to know more and I'm sure other readers would too! Merry Christmas.:). Robin Johnson This year I found this hilarious game All you need are sturdy paper plates and pens for each player. The host tells the players to put their paper plate on their head. Then the host will give a series of instructions for the players to draw on their paper plates (that are on their heads) without looking. Here are the instructions: 1. Draw a line for a floor. Draw a Christmas Tree. Add decorations if you feel so inclined. Draw a star on top of your tree. Draw a fireplace with a mantel next to the tree. Draw a stocking hanging from the mantel of your fireplace. Draw a present below the tree. After the six steps have been given, let everyone look at their masterpieces. Get ready for a serious giggle fest. Then have players count up how many points they received by following this rubric: 1. 2 points if the tree touches the floor. 2 points if your stocking is touching your mantel. 1 point if your star touches your tree. 1 point if your star is above your tree. 1 point for every Christmas ornament ball that is ON your tree, etc. 1 point if your fireplace doesn’t touch the tree (it’s a fire hazard!). 1 point if you actually drew something decorative on your stocking (or something cute, like a tiny kitten peeking out). 2 points if your present is under your tree. The player with the most points should receive a really awesome prize. Amanda One holiday cheer 'game'! Set a bowl or cup on a table for everyone invited (I usually use ones that are for take home gifts). Make place cards with each guests name and place it in front of the cup. Have pre-cut slips of paper and pencils on the table (the more paper the better.just in case a mistake is made). Everyone then walks through the line and writes one complimentary word or phrase for each person attending and places it in their cup (only positive comments are acceptable, after all it is meant to be uplifting and spread the cheer!). At a set time, everyone picks up their cup and retreats to a central location with everyone gathered around. (we like the fire place or fire outside) Each person takes a turn and reads two to three of the phrases that are placed in their cup. It is amazing how heart warming this can be and sets the cheer for the holiday! I think this year we will do a Hot Potato gift exchange. Everyone brings a generic or white elephant gift of a pre-determined value. I take ONE away. Everyone grabs a gift and starts passing it around while Christmas music plays. Obviously one person will not have a gift to pass. When the music stops the person without a gift can steal and open a gift. They are out. Continue until there are only two people, and one gift left. The person who has no gift can then either take the last gift or the 'hidden' gift. The final person gets the last gift. Maybe add stealing? Perhaps the last person can steal anything. And the stealing ensues? I like the concept but haven't finalized the ideas. One of our churches favorite games is called 'what if','then' game! I've never seen so many distorted, beat red, joyful, laughing faces in my entire life a group party. This is a must game for everyone. Starts out with two steps. Give everyone a piece of paper and ask them to write a phrase to finish the sentence that starts with'what if. (Example: what if I fell down the stairs) Everyone then places in a bowl and set aside. Repeat step one but have everyone answer the'then'with a phrase. So if I fell down the stairs then you can say what you did. (Example: then, I laughed my socks off) Now everyone places this paper in a separate bowl. Go around everyone and have them draw from each bowl a random'what if, and then paper. After all have been drawn and everyone has a complete phrase to read zero go around and have everyone read their phrase out loud. You will end up with some random sentence that will be sure to make you laugh!! It's absolutely hilarious and fun!!! |
